A Lost Wonder is Found

Macchu Picchu is an ancient Incan lost city in Perú that recently became one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is now regarded amongst the ranks of Egypt’s Giza Pyramid, Mexico’s Chichen Itza, Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue, Rome’s Colosseum, Jordan’s Petra, India’s Taj Mahal, and the Great Wall of China. The city itself rests comfortably at about 8,000 feet above sea level. It is surrounded by steep mountains and a dense jungle.Currently, Macchu Picchu is a popular tourist attraction but for most of its existence, people did not even know it was there. The Incans are said to have began settling there in 1430. They lived there for around a hundred years and then disappeared. Macchu Picchu did not resurface in the public eye again until 1911. It is one of the few remaining Incan sites that were not spoiled by the Incan’s Spanish conquerors.
